Monday's revelation that NBA player Jason Collins is gay, and has formally come out in this week's edition of Sports Illustrated, on Tuesday evening "Piers Morgan Live" invited Carolyn Moos to share her personal insight and reaction to a development that has rippled far beyond the world of sports and deeply embedded itself in the national conversation.
Having dated Collins for eight years, and been engaged to the 12-year veteran until he broke it off in 2009, Moos detailed hearing from him this week:
"He actually called this past weekend and we spoke a couple of times on Monday, so it's really fresh in my mind," said the former WNBA player who first met Collins when they were both playing basketball for Stanford University. "It's going to be a process, absolutely, and it just takes a lot of perspective, and a lot of understanding, and a lot of open conversation."
